Hike to Caibras

Image
Hiked with two guests from hotel, one was twenty something Scottish kid who is investment banker in London, other person is true "nomad" who has no home, she works for Doctors without Borders and has been assigned to over 50 countries (very interesting stories), ended up sailing here on sailboat. We did 7 hour high altitude hike, 14.85 miles, 3000 calories. Basically the locals have not seen tourists on island for 10 months, and are so welcoming towards us, probably only a couple of dozen tourists on island.

Hiking Above Fontainhas

Image
Hiking Above mountain village of Fontainas. Met up with easter friend Zi Zim who is terrace farmer "upstairs",up in the high elevations. He comes with me for exploration hike making new trail to the Tanque cliffs, some serious bush whacking (literally), see all the thorns and other vegetation stuck on my clothing and bloodied hand.

Arriving Santo Antao

Image
A couple of pictures from ferry (1 hour ride), arriving at Santo Antao Island. On ferry by coincidence I found my friend Vanee, who had his truck on ferry full of supplies from St Vincent (city where ferry departs), so I was able to put my huge bags in his truck and catch 2 hour ride to Pombas versus hitching ride with aluguere (shared mini van taxi). Vanee and his wife Hetty own restaurant/bar, so spent a few hours hanging there, see spaghetti with Carvale fish sauce in pic. Went up high after dark to Cabo de Ribeiro (top of river) village which is where I stay, highest village in 12 miles canyon Paul valley.
